Dear Friends in Christ,

“All you have made will praise you O Lord; your saints will extol you. They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.” Psalm 145:10,11

Our trip to the USA

It seems that so much has happened over the last few months that we can praise God for. The Lord greatly blessed our trip to the States in June and July. It was so refreshing to have a change of scene and to renew fellowship with many friends.

We also made new friends from the worldwide family of God, whom it was a joy to get to know. We were sometimes hosted by people that we had not met before, and yet their warm welcome made us feel quickly as if we were old friends! George was able to share about the Emmaus ministry sixteen times altogether and we were encouraged by the genuine interest of the believers. One or two congregations are considering the possibility of sending outreach teams in the future. And we know that many have committed to pray for us regularly.

Pray for guidance in planning the building and for the funds to come in at the right time. We must confess we have felt often overwhelmed by the enormity of this “mountain” project but we have a strong sense of the Lord’s hand in it and He is teaching us to trust Him to “move mountains”!

The Ministry. The Lord is also teaching us to trust Him through disappointments. In June the Emmaus office in a neighboring country had to temporarily close down for security reasons and increasing pressure on believers involved in Christian work. Pray that the work there may resume at the right time under the leadership of His choosing. We had also planned to hold a small conference for correspondence students in August. Unfortunately we had to postpone it, as a number of those who had registered to attend, cancelled at the last minute. We knew it would be might be a problem for them to be committed to come. Most are not believers and are not used to such conferences. Pray that we would be able to reschedule it for November and that we would organise the registration to ensure that people are committed to come.

The website ministry continues to be encouraging with increasing numbers of visitors and students registering and completing courses. Chris, from the German outreach team, who helped to set up the website, came 2 weeks earlier than the team to work on some improvements to it. Praise the Lord for this brother’s willingness to give up his time to help us.

Last month we produced a CD for distribution, which contains 8 Bible courses, the Bible, some books and articles, links to other courses, and many other media features from the Arabic website.

Outreach Team. A team of 6 young people from Germany was here from 22nd Sept until 7th October. They went from house to house with literature and a questionnaire to help them to develop conversations. Pray that the Lord will use all the materials that were distributed and for lasting contacts to be made. We already have four times the number of hits on the website as a result. About 10,000 CDs, over 4,000 evangeliestic booklets, thousands of tracts, and some childrens books, Bibles and New Testaments have been distributed. We have had 120 responses to the questionaires from homes in the vicinity of the church. Pray for us to be able to follow them up.

Please continue to pray for our other contacts made through the School, couples and women’s meetings. Jeanette is a young woman who we have had contact with in the last year and has come to the womens meetings. She has sought our counsel for some major domestic problems and last month both her parents and her uncle and his wife were all killed in a horrific car accident. She is understandably devastated. Pray for her and her relatives in this time of loss and that she and her husband may come to faith. Praise the Lord that Sana has recently accepted the Lord! Pray for the follow up studies she will start with Ros and for the salvation of her husband Gaalib, Jalal and Hind, and Rita (a young mother of 4 who has completed several courses).

Please pray URGENTLY for capable and gifted helpers for this multi-task ministry! The work is expanding and our time and energy is limited. We are looking for a full time co-laborer to share the laod with me. If you think the Lord may be calling anyone in your fellowship, please contact us. Thank you for praying and for being the backbone of this ministry!

In Christ,

George & Ros Khalil
