June 2018 News from Emmaus Nazareth

Dear Friends,

During the past three months we have been greatly encouraged to see how God is using the Emmaus courses to bring people to faith and to help believers in their spiritual growth. Of course the Enemy is not sleeping and he is trying to frustrate and hinder wherever he can.
We can PRAISE Him together for the encouraging Arabic Language Regional Directors conference, which was held in Jordan last month. The directors from Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel and Jordan met together with Jim Fleming, the International Co-ordinator. The aim was to share our news of the work in each field, clarify the procedures and new developments of Emmaus, discuss problems and how to better communicate with one another. We can share with you some of the news here.

EGYPT:

In the main cities, the children’s courses are very popular and some parents have started studying as a result. They are holding some groups to train two from each church to correct and distribute the courses. They are in need of a new storage facility in Cairo, which can also house an office and a book display. In Upper Egypt the courses are having a great impact on training the youth. Some students, who are teachers, have taken the courses to teach in the schools. In all areas they want to plant new churches through the home Bible studies and to bring the courses to the inmates in prisons.

LEBANON:

Literally hundreds of people are studing the Emmaus courses in Lebanon today. They are being taught in groups and indiviually in the local churches. There is one men’s class of more than 80 students! Refugees from Syria and Iraq from both religious backgrounds are also being reached. An Iraqi ex-Muslim is teaching a class to those from Islamic background – three have come to faith so far and about a hundred are actively studying the courses – Praise the Lord!

JORDAN;

While we were there for the conference, they held a baptism for five new believers (two from the other religion) and a graduation ceremony for those who had completed a series of 12 courses at different levels. Sixty students graduated – the majority were Iraqi refugees but also some Jordanians – what a blessing to witness these events! The team is also training believers from churches in other towns to use the courses, teaching them in a women’s prison for English speakers and starting a Bible study in a brother’s accounting office! They are still desperately looking for a larger property to accomodate the growing numbers to the meetings. Pray for this and for safety and spiritual growth of the many new believers in all the fields.
As we mentioned before, the Enemy is hard at work and causing us a problem with the new phone App. that we have developed. The new laws on data protection has meant that we can no longer see the contact details of all our correspondence students both on the app. and the website. All we can see is their name and how many books they have studied. Our web manager in Germany is now working to produce a system to enable us to legally access their contact details. Urgent prayer!

PRINTING:

In 2017 we printed and reprinted twenty different titles of courses – that is a huge amount of work for us to prepare the translation, editing and formatting in the Nazareth office and consumed most of our funds. Praise the Lord for Revival Press in Northern Ireland, who are currently working on printing six books, and we have another seven lined up for printing – a real answer to prayer.

NAZARETH;

We were able to hold a successful two-day kids camp at Easter and we are now planning for the summer. We would need to comply with the new, somewhat complicated and expensive government regulations in order to do a 5-day camp but we can still hold a 2-day camp legally without having to comply. We will try this in the summer. Please pray for many kids to attend.
The plans for the new building have been completed and we are now waiting on the city council to issue the permit so that we can start the renovations. We will begin with the funds that we have in hand and proceed as the Lord provides.
We invite you to partner with us in this ministry to help us enlarge our facilities to be able to meet the increasing demand to print and distribute more courses. Please contact us for further information.

In June we will be traveling to Germany for the Emmaus Global Strategy Conference on the subject of new digital developments for the courses. After that, Ros and I will be spending two weeks in Southern England and Wales to share about the work in various assemblies. In the Fall we hope to be in the US Midwest – Iowa, Missouri, Illinois. Please contact us if your church or organisation would be interested to hear about the ministry.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Monday: Jordan – A larger hall is needed for the assembly in Amman
  • Tuesday: Egypt – New study groups to begin and a larger office and store facility.
  • Wednesday: Lebanon – Many refugees there and in Jordan, who are studying the courses.
  • Thursday: New Emmaus centers to be established in Iraq and Syria
  • Friday: Nazareth – for work to begin on the renovations of the building soon
  • Saturday: For children to attend the summer camp in August and to respond to the gospel.
  • Sunday: To solve the problem of contact with students on the app. and website

We greatly value your prayers and interest in the ministry. Rejoice with us for the fruit that God is bringing through His Word in the Middle East.

PERSONAL STORY

H. from Yemen, had to flee to Jordan from Saudi Arabia when he came to faith in Christ. His wife and children were not allowed to join him. In Jordan, where he is attending the assembly, he was almost killed for his faith, but the Lord protected him and he has since brought two more Yemenite men to the Lord, one of whom was baptised last month. Pray for their safety and witness.
